Zell Miller: bomb the hell out of them

After the 11th repetition or so of the footage of the towers collapsing, I found myself desensitized. But last night, ABC showed several minutes of footage of firefighters picking through a vast canyon of rubble, paying their respects to a burned out husk of a fire engine, crawling through plaster under beams in search of air pockets. It revived the horror of it all for me.

Later they had another piece that began with a clip of Bush blathering that America was attacked because it is a shining beacon of freedom, then said of course that’s not why this happened or why these people are celebrating. Then they briefly mentioned a couple reasons why the United States is so hated. We need more coverage like that, that doesn’t dismiss these attacks as senseless.

Many reports of hatred and violence against Arab Americans, like events after the Oklahoma City bombing. A caller to WNYC mentioned a sign in a New York City window saying, DEMAND A NUCLEAR RESPONSE. The New York Times quotes Zell Miller, senator of Georgia, saying, I say, bomb the hell out of them. If there’s collateral damage, so be it. They certainly found our civilians to be expendable.

And after we bomb the hell out of Kabul, would Zell Miller go out on the streets and cheer with the other enraged Americans, like that throng of West Bank Palestinians?

I wish people would understand that the hatred with which they so casually call for bombing innocent civilians is the same hatred with which terrorists coldly executed our innocent civilians in the Twin Towers.

Post ĉirkaŭ la 11‐a ripeton de la filmo de la turoj disfalintaj, mi sin trovas malsentiviĝa. Sed pasintnokte, ABC montris kelkajn minutojn da filmo en kiu fajrobrigadistoj fosas en vasta kanjono de rubo, prezentas siajn respektojn al forbrula ŝelo de fajrokamiono, rampas tra gipso sub traboj serĉe de aerkavoj. Ĝi revivigis la hororon por mi.

Poste ili havis alian pecon, kiu komencis kun eltondo de Bush babilaĉanta ke Usono atakiĝis ĉar ĝi estas brila gvidlumo de libereco, tiam diris ja vere tiu ne estas kial tiu ĉi okazis aŭ kial tiuj ĉi homoj celebras. Tiam ili mallonge menciis plurajn rezonojn kiam Usono estas tiom malamita. Ni bezonas plu raporton kiu ne malakceptis la atakojn kiel sensencan.

Multajn raportojn de malamo kaj violento kontraŭ arabaj usonanoj, simila al okazoj post la bombado de Oklahomo‐urbo. Vokanto al WNYC menciis signon en Novjorka fenestro kiu tekstis, POSTULU NUKLEAN RESPONDON. The New York Times [La Novjorka Tempo] citis Zell Miller, senatano de Georgio, dirante, Mi diras, bombu ja amasege ilin. Se estos akcesora damaĝo, estu kiel ajn. Ili certe juĝis niajn civilulojn esti konsumebla.

Kaj post kiam ni bombu ja amasege Kabulon, ĉu Zell Miller elirus sur la stratoj kaj huraus kun la aliaj furiozigaj usonanoj, simile al la svarmo de palestinanoj de Ŭesta Bordo?

Mi deziras ke homoj komprenus, ke la malamo, per kiu ili tiom senzorge postulas bombi senkulpajn civilulojn, estas la sama malamo, per kiu teruristoj fride detruis niajn senkulpajn civilulojn en la Ĝemelaj Turoj.
