Rice: It’s nice to read about things and do nothing

So Condoleezza Rice was just plugging her new book on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. Jon pitched softball questions.

Condoleezza Rice: Well, I have to say, Jon, first of all, it is really nice to get up and read the newspaper and say Oh, isn’t that interesting, and know that you don’t have to do anything about what’s in it.

And Condoleezza Rice would know about reading about important events and not doing anything about them.

From her 9/11 Commission testimony:

Condoleezza Rice: But I don’t remember the al‐Qaida cells as being something that we were told we needed to do something about.

Richard Ben-Veniste: Isn’t it a fact, Dr. Rice, that the August 6 PDB warned against possible attacks in this country? And I ask you whether you recall the title of that PDB?

Condoleezza Rice: I believe the title was, Bin Laden Determined to Attack Inside the United States.

But no one told the national security advisor, Do something about this. So she didn’t.
